Composite or white fillings, are widely used these days, mainly due to their aesthetics. The currently available materials used for composites are showing some very strong wear potential and they do an excellent job in the grooves, and dramatically lower the development of cavities. (FYI: Some insurance companies will pay for the less expensive amalgams - Mercury Fillings - instead of composite fillings.) There are also glass filled resin fillings.
